Coach Akwasi Appiah
Renowned local scout, coach Ebenezer Sefa has called on Ghanaians to give head coach of the Senior National Soccer Team, the Black Stars, Coach Akwasi Appear the benefit of the doubt and allow him to work.
Ghana will be involved in two international friendlies in the coming weeks. The Black Stars will play Japan on the 30th of May before going up against Iceland on the 6th of June as part of preparations ahead of qualifying matches for the 2019 African Cup Of Nations (AFCON).
Over the weekend, coach of the side Akwasi Appiah released his shortlist of players for the two friendlies but has been met with serious criticism from Ghanaians.
The list of players excludes any player from the Zylofon Ghana Premier league as well as big-name players from Europe all missing out.
The likes of the Ayew brothers, Skipper Asamoah Gyan and Christian Atsu are all missing in the squad.
Today on Class FM, Chief Scout Coach Eben emphasized that the likes of Jordan Ayew, Dede Ayew, and Asamoah Gyan are all already part and parcel of the Black Stars.
Therefore it is essential the coach tries out new players so that in the future when there is the need to add players to the squad, the coach will be comfortable to blend them because he has had the chance to monitor them already.
“We have given the coach the mandate to qualify Ghana for the AFCON in 2019 and to go all the way to win the trophy in 2019 and I believe that he is giving the opportunity to some few players to access them”, he said.
Coach also insists that Jordan Ayew has nothing to prove to the coach, Asamoah Gyan has nothing to prove to the Coach, Atsu has nothing to prove to the coach so there is no problem if the coach decides to try new players in friendly matches.
Coach Ebenezer Sefa admits cohesion and understanding in a team is important but these are just two friendly matches so it cannot do any harm.
“Unfortunately Ghana is not going to the work cup but fortunately for the coach he will have the chance to see these players and also blend them”, he added.
